Following completion of residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Oleson pursued a Spinal Cord Injury Medicine fellowship at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago of Northwestern University. Her current research focuses on immobilization osteoporosis in those with traumatic spinal cord injury. She serves as the principal investigator in a NIDLRR-funded investigational study examining the benefit of an agent to prevent osteoporosis in newly-injured spinal cord patients. Dr. Oleson has published numerous scientific articles and chapters, covering aspects of spinal cord injury, osteoporosis, and vitamin D deficiency.

Simon Donell, BSc, MB BS, FRCS(Orth), MD, is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust, Norwich, United Kingdom and Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia. His specialist interest is the patellofemoral joint, and he has an international reputation in this field. Professor Donell is immediate Past President of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) and a Trustee of the British Orthopaedic Association. He is also an Honorary Fellow of both the Paraguayan Orthopaedic Association and the Deutschen Kniegesellschaft (German Knee Society). He is an active member of ESSKA, serving on their Education Committee and the ESSKA Academy Editorial Board. Professor Donell is an Assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has in the past acted as a Specialist Advisor to the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (Interventional Procedures Programme). He has delivered numerous invited lectures around the world and has participated in many training programmes.

Iain McNamara, BM BCh (Cantab), MRCS Eng, MRCP, FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics), MD (Cantab) is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust, Norwich, United Kingdom and Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia. In 2011, he received the Raymond Horton-Smith Prize, awarded by the School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge for the best thesis presented for the MD degree during the academic year. Dr. McNamara served as a board member and trustee of the British Orthopaedic Research Society from 2011 to 2015, and was Secretary of the organization from 2011 to 2013. He is also a past Secretary of the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA) (2007–9) and past board member of The Federation of Orthopaedic Trainees in Europe. In 2015, Dr. McNamara acted as Principal Investigator on the Warwick Hip Trauma Evaluation Study (WHiTE), an NIHR multiple embedded randomized controlled trial cohort study of patients with a fracture of the proximal femur. He has fulfilled various consultancy roles and has acted as a reviewer for several leading journals in the field, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

About the Author

Martyn Cobourne graduated in Dental Surgery from King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1990. After a series of junior hospital appointments in Bristol and London he undertook specialty training in orthodontics at King’s Dental Institute, obtaining his Membership in Orthodontics in 1997. This was followed by the award of a Clinical Training Fellowship from the UK Medical Research Council in 1998, which allowed him to undertake a PhD investigating tooth development in Paul Sharpe’s laboratory at Guy’s Dental Hospital. Martyn was appointed as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Orthodontics at King’s College London Dental Institute in 2004 and promoted to Professor of Orthodontics in 2011. His research is primarily focused on the role of molecular signaling pathways during early development of the head and face. However, he is also interested in the effectiveness of contemporary orthodontic treatment interventions and has led a number of randomized controlled trials investigating treatment efficiency. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles; he is also the author of two successful orthodontic textbooks and has edited a volume on the management of cleft lip and palate. He was Director of Research at the British Orthodontic Society from 2012-16 and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Orthodontics.
