Challenging Topics in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care 1st ed. 2017 Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=3319414437]

This book focuses on controversial issues in neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care that in general have been subjected to insufficient professional scrutiny. The book is in three parts, the first of which is devoted to topics relating to traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, such as brain tissue oxygenation, the role of biomarkers, and diagnosis of brain death. Aspects of airway and pain management are then addressed, covering, for example, airway management in an emergency setting, airway evaluation in the edentulous patient, and pain management in neurosurgery and after craniotomy. The final part of the book considers a wide range of other challenging subjects in the field of neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care. Throughout, much information is provided on the latest, state of the art management. The authors are acknowledged experts in the issues they discuss, and the book will be of interest for graduate and undergraduate students, residents, neuroanesthetists, neurointensivists, emergency medicine residents and specialists, fellows in neurocritical care and all those directly involved in the perioperative care of patients with head and neck pathology.

Radiofrequency Treatments on the Spine 1st ed. 2017 Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=3319414615]

This book describes the principles and applications of radiofrequency treatments for various spinal indications, including disc herniation, discogenic and radicular pain, facet joint arthropathy, and benign and malignant lesions of the vertebral column. The aim is to provide a handy guide that will acquaint readers with all aspects of radiofrequency neurotomy at different levels of the spine, enabling them to carry out treatments effectively and safely.

Radiofrequency neurotomy, or radiofrequency ablation, is a minimally invasive procedure that is associated with a reduction in complications, side effects, and risks of anesthesia as well as with lower costs. This book, written by world-renowned authorities in the field, fills a significant gap in the literature by specifically focusing on the use of radiofrequency for spinal conditions. It will be of value to a range of specialists, including interventional neuroradiologists and radiologists, neurosurgeons, and orthopedists.

Landmark Papers in Neurosurgery 2nd Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=0199674027]

Evidence-based medicine is a concept that has come to the fore in the past few years. Clinicians are increasingly encouraged to practise patient management based on available evidence in the scientific literature. For example, new pharmacological therapies are only used when large randomized trials have ‘proven’ that a particular drug is better than existing ones. This is also the case in surgical specialties, although surgery has traditionally seen a lack of use of this information, with individual surgeon’s preferences being most influential in treatment choices. However, more recently, there has been a large expansion of trials and studies aimed at providing surgeons with information to guide their choices using firm evidence.
This new edition has been revised and expanded to include new data where relevant, and also features a new chapter on pituitary surgery. Landmark Papers in Neurosurgery 2e remains a key collection of the most important trials and studies in neurosurgery, allowing the reader to rapidly extract key results, and making it essential reading for all neurosurgeons and trainees in the field.

The Integrated Nervous System: A Systematic Diagnostic Case-Based Approach, Second Edition 2nd Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=1138037427]

This innovative textbook is modelled on problem-based learning. It bridges the gap between academic neuroanatomy and clinical neurology and effectively takes the reader from the classroom to the clinic, so that learning can be applied in practice.

This second edition has been updated and expanded to include many more clinical cases within both the book and the accompanying Wweb site. Significant additions include

  • abbreviated presentation of the history and neurologic examination of all the cases on the web site (now numbering over 50) within the text at the end of each of the clinical chapters.
  • new ‘maps’ — visual representations of the clinical motor, sensory and reflex findings.
  • the web site further expands the cases – presenting them in detail, and providing an ‘expert’ commentary to discuss the reasoning for the localization and etiological diagnosis.

This book and the associated Web site will be of practical value to all the professionals who deal with people who have neurological conditions, as well as being invaluable to medical students and residents. This includes physiatrists (rehabilitation medicine specialists), physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, and nurses who specialize in the care of neurological patients. We think that this text will also be of value for family physicians and specialists in internal medicine and pediatrics, all of whom must differentiate between organic pathology of the nervous system and other conditions.
