About the Author

Professor Sir Nicholas Wright’s research is in the field of gastrointestinal stem cells and cancer. He was Professor of Pathology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School at the Hammersmith Hospital, and then became the Dean of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School before becoming the Deputy Principal of the Imperial College School of Medicine in 1998. Sir Nicholas then served as Warden of Barts and the London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry from 2001 to 2011. He as served as Group Leader at the Histopathology Unit at Cancer Research UK London Research Institute and was President of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the British Society of Gastroenterology. He was knighted in 2006 for services to medicine. Sir Wright has published over 427 scientific articles and received over 12,939 citations.

Dr. Marnix Jansen is a histopathologist at University College London Hospital (UCLH) and Senior Clinical Fellow at Barts Cancer Institute. He a rising young star in the area of upper GI cancer research and he has published 23 scientific papers and has received over 794 citations.

Nivedita Agarwal is a board-certified neurologist and neuroradiologist currently working at the Hospital of Rovereto, Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari in Trento, Italy. She is appointed adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Radiology, subsection of Neuroradiology of the University of Utah in 2010 and annually fulfills her responsibilities by teaching to residents and fellows in radiology and neuroradiology. She serves as the medical director for Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory at the University of Trento. Over the past six years she has diversified her teaching experiences in the areas of Radiology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Mathematics at the universities of Verona, Trento, Utah and at Johns Hopkins. Her signature lectures include combining neuroanatomy with function, and she has organized several seminars in this field over the past 5 years. Her research includes the development of diffusion tensor and resting state functional imaging techniques and their applications to individual patients (so-called Precision Medicine). She is the author of several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.

About the Author

C Simon Herrington graduated in biochemistry with honours from the University of Cambridge in 1982 and medicine with honours from the University of London in 1985. He trained in Internal Medicine (MRCP 1988) and then became a CRC clinical research fellow in the Nuffield Department of Pathology, University of Oxford, receiving his DPhil in 1991. He was appointed clinical lecturer in pathology in Oxford where he completed his training in clinical cellular pathology (MRCPath 1994). He was appointed clinical senior lecturer in molecular pathology and consultant in pathology at the University of Liverpool in 1995 and was promoted to a Personal Chair in 1999. In 2003, he was appointed to the Chair of Pathology at the University of St Andrews, moving to the Chair of Pathology at the University of Dundee in 2010 and the Chair of Molecular Cancer Pathology at the University of Edinburgh in 2015. He also works as a consultant pathologist, specialising in gynecological pathology, was co-editor of the 4th Edition of the WHO Classification of Tumours of Female Reproductive Organs, and edited the 15th Edition of Muir’s Textbook of Pathology. He sits on the Board of the Association for International Cancer Research and is a past President of the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists. He is Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pathology and the Journal of Pathology: Clinical Research. He has a long-standing interest in the molecular pathology and optical imaging of cancer, collaborating with physical scientists to develop molecular imaging approaches to cancer diagnosis.
