Vascular and Endovascular Controversies Update

Vascular and Endovascular Controversies Update

Vascular and Endovascular Controversies Update

Selected chapters are found under the clear sections of the book: Controversies —Acute Stroke—Thoracic Aortic—Abdominal Aortic—Peripheral Arterial Ischaemia—Venous and Lymphatic. The book is certainly up to date as it was written before the chapters were spoken to a large audience at the 40th celebration of the Charing Cross International Symposium to take place in Olympia Grand in the west of London.
It is hard to focus on particular high spots. Acute Stroke Controversies include the CCSVI appraisal by Lindsay Machan. In this chapter, essentially, Machan and his co-author dispel the concept that this intervention affects the natural history of the underlying condition.

Endovascular Surgery and Devices

Endovascular Surgery and Devices

Endovascular Surgery and Devices

This book provides a systematic description of fundamental knowledge, application methods, and management issues about the clinical application of endovascular surgery and device. It is organized as the three parts. Part 1 introduces the development background of endovascular device and its knowledge hierarchy, and gives an overview on classification, structure, shape, and characteristics of the above device. Part 2 is based on a large number of clinical practices. It firstly summarizes the basic operation skills and conventional methods of endovascular device, and then exemplifies the application scheme of special device for complex cases. Part 3 discusses the management theory and methods of endovascular device in clinical application, puts forward the agile supply chain management model and autonomous intelligent decision-making method of device supply and cooperation management for clinical surgery, and designs its managerial system and guides.

This book provides comprehensive and professional knowledge, advanced theory, and referential methods for clinical application and management of endovascular surgery and device. It is a useful guide for the clinical practice in specialized study and professional training in endovascular surgery, and provides the methods of neuro-management and smart medical service for patients.

Vessel Health and Preservation: The Right Approach for Vascular Access

Vessel Health and Preservation: The Right Approach for Vascular Access

Vessel Health and Preservation: The Right Approach for Vascular Access

This Open access book offers updated and revised information on vessel health and preservation (VHP), a model concept first published in poster form in 2008 and in JVA in 2012, which has received a great deal of attention, especially in the US, UK and Australia.
The book presents a model and a new way of thinking applied to vascular access and administration of intravenous treatment, and shows how establishing and maintaining a route of access to the bloodstream is essential for patients in acute care today. Until now, little thought has been given to an intentional process to guide selection, insertion and management of vascular access devices (VADs) and by default actions are based on crisis management when a quickly selected VAD fails. The book details how VHP establishes a framework or pathway model for each step of the patient experience, intentionally guiding, improving and eliminating risk when possible. The evidence points to the fact that reducing fragmentation, establishing a pathway, and teaching the process to all stakeholders reduces complications with intravenous therapy, improves efficiency and diminishes cost. As such this book appeals to bedside nurses, physicians and other health professionals.

Budd-Chiari Syndrome

Budd-Chiari Syndrome

Budd-Chiari Syndrome

This book offers a systematic introduction to Budd-Chiari syndrome, a rare but life-threatening vascular disorder of the liver, which refers to obstructions at any site from the hepatic veins to the suprahepatic inferior vena cava. The book mainly covers the history, epidemiology, etiology and risk factors, pathology, diagnosis, pharmacological and interventional aspects, surgical treatment, etiological treatment, and prognostic assessment of Budd-Chiari syndrome. Notably, it also presents cutting-edge research findings in this field. The early diagnosis of Budd-Chiari syndrome is vital, as it allows clinicians to pursue more targeted and effective treatment strategies, thus improving patient outcomes. However, much information, including the latest advances, has not yet been fully disseminated in current clinical practice. This book addresses that gap, helping physicians to improve diagnosis and establish standard treatment strategies, helping researchers conduct clinical and experimental studies, and even helping patients and their relatives to recognize this disease.

Difficult Decisions in Vascular Surgery: An Evidence-Based Approach

Difficult Decisions in Vascular Surgery: An Evidence-Based Approach

This book looks at specific vascular surgery questions that have arisen and where careful analysis is given according to the level of supporting evidence available. As new technology is introduced to treat the cardiovascular system, alternative therapies begin to challenge and also complement traditional vascular surgery. All chapters contain the PICO table to summarise specific characteristics relative to the questions posed in each chapter.

Difficult Decisions in Vascular Surgery- An Evidence-Based Approach is a current and timely reference source for practicing surgeons, surgeons in training, and educators, that describes the recommended ideal approach, rather than customary care, in selected clinical situations.

Textbook of Vascular Medicine 1st ed

This textbook focuses on the vascular biology and physiology that underlie vascular disorders in clinical medicine. Vascular biomedicine is a rapidly growing field as new molecular mechanisms of vascular health and disease are unraveled. Many of the major cardiovascular diseases including coronary artery disease, heart failure, stroke and vascular dementia are  diseases of the vasculature. In addition vascular injury underpins conditions like kidney failure and cardiovascular complications of diabetes. This field is truly multidisciplinary involving scientists in many domains such as molecular and vascular biology, cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology and immunology and inflammation. Clinically, specialists across multiple disciplines are involved in the management of patients with vascular disorders, including cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, neurologists and vascular surgeons.

This book covers a wide range of topics and provides  an overview of the discipline of vascular biomedicine without aiming at in-depth reviews, but rather offering up-to-date knowledge  organized  in concise and structured chapters, with key points and pertinent references.  The structure of the content provides an integrative and translational approach from basic science (e.g. stem cells) to clinical medicine (e.g. cardiovascular disease).

The content of this book is targeted to those who are new in the field of vascular biology and vascular medicine and is ideal for medical students, graduate and postgraduate students, clinical fellows  and academic clinicians with an interest in the vascular biology and physiology of cardiovascular disease and related pathologies.
