Penile Cancer: Diagnosis and Treatment (Current Clinical Urology) 2013th Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=1627033661]

Penile Cancer: Diagnosis and Management provides a comprehensive overview of penile cancer for medical and surgical urologists oncologists, and other healthcare professionals. This book highlights many of the significant advances made in this field, which include a discussion of penile-sparing surgical and radiotherapeutic approaches to select primary penile tumors typically of lower stage and grade as well as advances in our understanding of the epidemiology, risk factors, and pathophysiology of penile cancer. The book also addresses many of the novel diagnostic and therapeutic surgical approaches to inguinal lymph nodes, including dynamic sentinel node biopsy and minimally invasive surgery. The authors also discuss many of the clinical pearls and surgical considerations that can optimize treatment outcomes while minimizing the morbidity and inherent risk of complications in patients undergoing an open inguinal lymph node dissection. Lastly, the volume presents a discussion of the paradigm shift in the management of bulky inguinal lymph node metastases from penile cancer consisting of neoadjuvant systemic chemotherapy followed by consolidative surgical resection, which can offer an improved likelihood of survival as shown in a recent phase 3 clinical trial.

Penile Cancer: Diagnosis and Management will serve as a resource for clinicians and researchers seeking an overview on the current state of knowledge in penile cancer. The editor has gathered leading worldwide experts in this field who have written a very practical and useful textbook for clinicians in an attempt to optimize patient outcomes and promote the pivotal scientific advances made in recent years.

Male Hypogonadism: Basic, Clinical and Therapeutic Principles (Contemporary Endocrinology) 2nd ed. 2017 Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=3319532960]

Now in a revised second edition, this comprehensive text covers all aspects of male hypogonadism from the basic science to clinical management, comprehensively explaining and applying new insights to the treatment of hypogonadal men. Chapters covering neuroendocrine control of testicular function, Leydig cell function, spermatogenesis, and normal and delayed puberty open the book. The focus then turns to the pathophysiology and treatment of hypogonadism and other forms of testicular dysfunction, such as Klinefelter syndrome, cryptorchidism, and disorders of the pituitary, as well as reproductive and endocrine consequences of cancer treatment, environmental factors, obesity and aging. Next are chapters that describe the available options for androgen replacement therapy, and the outcomes when men with hypogonadism of various causes are treated with testosterone, as well as a chapter devoted to current approaches to stimulating spermatogenesis in gonadotropin-deficient men.

Highly practical and updated with the latest available data, this second edition of Male Hypogonadism: Basic, Clinical and Therapeutic Principles cogently presents a large body of scientific information on male reproductive endocrinology to provide a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, and treatments for disorders that adversely affect testicular function.

From The New England Journal of Medicine

Male reproductive health has become an important focus of health services in many countries. Poor semen quality is a widespread problem, and both young and elderly men often seek medical advice regarding symptoms of hypogonadism, including sexual dysfunction. However, andrology — the clinical area of expertise that covers these medical problems — has not yet been given sufficient attention in the health care systems of most countries. Therefore, training of doctors in this medical discipline is often superficial and lacking in uniformity. This excellent book, edited by leading American andrologist Stephen J. Winters, covers most problems in this field. It is unavoidable that a book containing 19 chapters written by 37 contributors turned out somewhat uneven with regard to style and quality. However, the list of authors is impressive. They represent some of the best American, European, and Australian research groups in andrology. A clear benefit is the inclusion of information on topics that may be difficult to find in other books, such as the congenital cause of adult symptoms of hypogonadism and hypogonadism in congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The latter chapter should prove useful not only for endocrinologists treating patients with hypogonadism but also for urologists, since the “adrenal nests” in men with congenital adrenal hyperplasia can mimic malignant germ-cell tumors. The chapters on the effects of irradiation and chemotherapy are also important additions to the available literature. I also want to highlight the chapters on androgens, sex hormone-binding globulin, and androgen-replacement therapy. The editor himself is an internist, and perhaps his selection of information on the pediatric aspects of hypogonadism is less than comprehensive. A pediatric endocrinologist may miss information on the possibility of treatment of boys with hypogonadism with oral androgens and on the long-term outcome of the treatment of micropenis and male pseudohermaphroditism. Despite these minor criticisms, I recommend this book as a timely update for all endocrinologists and urologists who care for patients with hypogonadism, male infertility, or both. It will also be useful as an introduction to these medical specialties for doctors during their training years. Niels E. Skakkebaek, M.D.

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=3642124550]

Scrotal Pathology is a comprehensive practical guide to the management of patients who present with scrotal disorders. Introductory chapters consider imaging instrumentation, clinical evaluation, and clinical and imaging anatomy. The full range of disorders is then discussed in individual chapters organized according to clinical presentation. All clinical and imaging aspects are covered in depth, with full description of symptoms and explanation of the value of different clinical tests and imaging modalities. In addition, underlying histopathological features are presented and correlated with imaging features in order to clarify their pathological basis. For each disorder, therapeutic strategies are discussed and appraised. Adults and children are considered separately whenever necessary, bearing in mind that they often present essentially different scrotal pathology. The many images are all of high quality and were obtained using high-end equipment.

Textbook of Penile Cancer

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=1848828780]

Textbook of Penile Cancer reports accurately on recent developments in the management of penile cancer, whilst also covering the fundamentals of the disease, to provide a comprehensive, stand-alone and up-to-date volume on the subject.

The surgical management of penile cancer is shifting towards increasingly refined methods, as it is believed that a proportion of patients undergo overtreatment for the disease. Where traditionally the management of penile cancer has involved partial or total penectomy combined with radical inguinal lymphadenectomy, over the last few years the treatment   involves conservative penile reconstructive surgery  such that sexual function and phallic length is preserved. Furthermore, the increasing utilization of sentinel lymph node biopsy rather than  radical inguinal lymphadenectomy prevents the unnecessary removal of lymph nodes in patients where  lymph node  metastases has not occurred. There is also likely to be a change in the role of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for  advanced disease.

Textbook of Penile Cancer covers the epidemiology, molecular biology, radiological imaging, as well as the  latest surgical advances  in the treatment of this disease. This book is a valuable reference tool for Urological Surgeons, Genitourinary Physicians, Trainee Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Oncologists, Dermatologists and Sexual Health Physicians.

Management of Prostate Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Approach 2nd ed. 2017 Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=3319427687]

This book, now in an extensively revised second edition, provides an exhaustive review of the state of the art in the management of prostate cancer, from screening to treatment, with emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach. The editors are very excited about the outstanding new or updated contributions from the different expert authors.

The opening chapters address basic aspects including epidemiology, pathology, biology, genetics, and chemoprevention. The role of individual and mass screening is carefully appraised, and extensive attention is devoted to diagnosis and clinical work-up by means of recently implemented investigations such as multiparametric MRI and choline PET-CT.

The use of active surveillance is examined in detail. Subsequent chapters discuss the different therapies that may be employed: open and minimally invasive, including robot-assisted, radical prostatectomy, the various forms of radiation treatment, high-intensity focused ultrasound, cryotherapy, hormonal manipulations, chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy. Up-to-date results from practice-changing phase III randomized clinical trials are included and special insights are provided into the interpretation of results and the patient’s perspective.

Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy: A Step-by-Step Guide 1st ed. 2017 Edition

[amazon template=iframe image2&asin=9811028478]

This book explains the development of various laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) techniques, which can be performed via the retroperitoneal or the transperitoneal approach. It provides a step-by-step explanation of LDN, including details of intricacies such as port positioning, dissection steps, securing the hilum and retrieval. It also reviews new techniques like robotic donor nephrectomy and single-port donor nephrectomy. Lastly, it explores the non-technical but equally important issues of donor work-up and legal and social aspects.

LDN is a unique surgical procedure in which the surgeon operates on an individual who is not a patient but someone donating out of altruistic motives, and it has to be “zero error” for the safety of the graft, donor and the recipient. This handbook is a valuable resource for urologists, general and transplant surgeons as well as anesthesiologists and medical social workers working in the field.
