He initially did neurosurgery training, later general psychiatry, and finally specialised in the field of intellectual disability. He has been actively involved in research in intellectual disability, having published over 100 articles relating to people with intellectual disability. He has completed 3 post doctorate degrees in this field, MMedSc, MD, and PhD. As an editor or author he has published 10 textbooks. He has a recognised international reputation and has been involved in a number of international studies and reports highlighting health issues for persons with intellectual disability.

Raquel Seiça received her M.D. and her PhD and Aggregation in Medicine from University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is Full Professor of Physiology-Medicine and Head of the Institute of Physiology at the same University. She is also Investigator of the Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences-IBILI-Faculty of Medicine and Collaborator Investigator in the Center for Classical and Humanistic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. Her scientific interests lie in diabetes mellitus and obesity. She is author of 130 peer-reviewed papers, 13 book chapters, 193 peer-reviewed published abstracts and 477 presentations. She supervised 3 post-doctoral projects, 9 PhD Thesis, 36 Master Thesis and 46 Research Program Training.

Nivedita Agarwal is a board-certified neurologist and neuroradiologist currently working at the Hospital of Rovereto, Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari in Trento, Italy. She is appointed adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Radiology, subsection of Neuroradiology of the University of Utah in 2010 and annually fulfills her responsibilities by teaching to residents and fellows in radiology and neuroradiology. She serves as the medical director for Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory at the University of Trento. Over the past six years she has diversified her teaching experiences in the areas of Radiology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Mathematics at the universities of Verona, Trento, Utah and at Johns Hopkins. Her signature lectures include combining neuroanatomy with function, and she has organized several seminars in this field over the past 5 years. Her research includes the development of diffusion tensor and resting state functional imaging techniques and their applications to individual patients (so-called Precision Medicine). She is the author of several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.
